About Us
At Raising Brave Kids, we specialize in helping children and families overcome anxiety, OCD, and related challenges through compassionate, evidence-based care. We know how overwhelming it can feel when your child is struggling—and we’re here to help kids, teens, and parents feel more confident, capable, and connected.
Our team uses research-backed therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support lasting change. We also integrate parent support, group programs, and school collaboration to have progress stick beyond the therapy room.
Our mission is simple: to stop the spiral of anxiety and OCD—so kids can get back to being kids, and families can move forward with confidence.
Our Services
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a structured, skills-based therapy that teaches kids and parents how to notice the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It’s especially effective for treating anxiety, OCD, and related concerns. Through CBT, we guide children in learning tools they can use in real-life situations to feel more in control, confident, and calm.
-
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
ERP is the gold standard treatment for OCD and phobias. We help children gradually face their fears in a supportive, step-by-step way. Over time, ERP helps reduce anxiety and breaks the cycle of avoidance or compulsions. Families are included in the process so they can support their child in doing brave things both in and out of session.
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT helps children and teens build psychological flexibility. We teach them how to recognize their thoughts and feelings without judgment and take action that aligns with their values. ACT strategies like mindfulness and acceptance help kids feel less stuck and more empowered to move through hard moments.
-
Mindfulness Based Techniques
Mindfulness-based techniques involve cultivating present-moment awareness and non-judgmental acceptance of one's thoughts, emotions, and sensations. These techniques, such as mindfulness meditation and breathing exercises, can help children develop a greater sense of calmness, emotional regulation, and focus.
-
SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions)
SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Childhood Emotions) is an innovative, evidence-based parent-based treatment program for children and adolescents with anxiety, OCD, and related problems. This unique approach equips parents with the skills needed to effectively manage and reduce their child's symptoms.
-
Habit Reversal Training (HRT)
HRT is an effective treatment for Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs), such as hair pulling and skin picking. We help kids build awareness of what triggers their behaviors and teach them how to replace those habits with healthier, competing responses. With practice, this can greatly reduce the frequency and intensity of the behaviors.
How We Work
Supportive
We meet kids where they are and move at a pace that’s respectful and empowering.
Goal-Oriented
We work together to set meaningful goals—like reducing anxiety, increasing confidence, or improving friendships and others.
Present-Focused
While we honor the past, we focus on the now to make real-life changes kids can feel in the present.
Active
Therapy isn’t just talking—it’s active, hands-on learning. We equip kids and parents with practical tools they can use in everyday life. Because we specialize in working with children and teens, we know how to keep things fun, engaging, and age-appropriate. Our team brings interventions to life in creative, playful ways that make learning stick.
Brief and Effective
Many families begin seeing progress within a few months. A typical course of CBT lasts about 12–20 sessions. We focus on teaching lifelong skills, and families once graduated are welcome to return for booster sessions or check-ins as kids grow and face new challenges. It's common for children to reconnect with us at different stages of development when extra support is needed.
Well-Researched
Our methods are backed by science. CBT is the most studied therapy for kids and is widely known as the gold standard for treating anxiety and OCD. We choose what works—so families can feel confident and supported.

Initial Assessment Sessions
Meet first for a parent session, followed by a child session with your clinician to explore your child’s needs and strengths. Together, you’ll clarify goals, identify the right support, and create a personalized plan to help your child thrive.
Start Ongoing Treatment
Therapy sessions are held weekly and last about an hour. If you're joining virtually, just click the secure link we send via email to begin. For in-person care, your child will meet with their therapist at our NW Portland Oregon office.
Follow-Up and Support
Treatment typically lasts between 12–20 sessions, depending on your child’s unique needs. Over the course of treatment, we’ll check in regularly—not just on your child’s progress, but also to support you as a parent with tools and guidance to reinforce growth at home. Even after your child is doing well, occasional “booster” sessions can help maintain gains and provide continued support when needed.
